Miss Sofia Maria Kierkegaard « Thread Started on Apr 23, 2008, 8:43am »
BASICS Name: Sofia Maria Kierkegaard Age: 20 years old Date of Birth: January 6, 1791 Title: Has no title that matches that of the English system.
FAMILY Father: Archbishop Jakob Kierkegaard (b. 1761 – d. 1811) Stepmother: Karen Kierkegaard (b. 1768 – d. 1811) Mother: Eva Maria Kierkegaard (b. 1763 – d. 1793) Stepbrother: Markus Kierkegaard (b. 1787)
BACKGROUND Sofia Maria Kierkegaard was born on a winter morning in Copenhagen, Denmark. She was the first child of the Priest Jakob Kierkegaard and his wife Eva Maria. Fate being cruel made her the only child of the couple as well. Eva Maria died two years later in childbirth. The baby boy died along with her.
Much of Sofia's childhood was spent with anyone but her father, really. He was a busy man in Copenhagen, well-thought of, and had the ambition and drive to come a long way. This he did, but very much at the expense of his daughter's and his relationship. She grew up with everything a child could ever dream of, with the exception of actual parents. When the father met Karen Danielsen, however, it seemed for just a brief moment that there was an actual chance of parental influence. Seemed being the keyword.
Karen Danielsen was a widower like Jakob himself and she, too, had a child, a son named Markus Danielsen. When she and Jakob married in 1806, both her son's and her last name was changed, though. They moved into the Kierkegaard house, which, by now, was considerably larger than the ones both families had had earlier on. Kierkegaard had not long before their marriage been granted the position of archbishop, which naturally called for a larger, more prestigeous house.
In the Kierkegaard residence, everything went on to be fine. Not more, not less, just fine. Sofia got along quite well with Markus, though it took its time for them to warm up to one another (really, there was a lot of cool air between them in the early days of the joined family life). Still, they got acquainted and as acquainted went on to become friendship, so did friendship go on to become close.
Still, sometimes things just are not meant to work out altogether that great and in February, 1811 when Jakob Kierkegaard died of unknown causes, Karen was found not many days after, dead as well. Suspicions of suicide were there, but none ever confirmed nor denied. Inheriting the family fortune of the rather rich Jakob Kierkegaard, both Sofia and Markus thought it dull to stay put. Their relationship with the parents had scarcely existed, which meant that there really wasn't anything worth staying for – no real memories of importance besides the ones they shared between the two of them. Sofia's answer to the question ”What now?” - London!
These days, their relationship is very strong and it is doubtful that one knows something the other does not – perhaps with the exception of Markus' small infatuation with his stepsister who is now, in no way, legally or in blood, related to him.
Hair colour: Blonde Eye colour: Dark brown Skin tone: White
PERSONALITY Sofia's childhood has affected her in many ways and has indeed turned her into the person she is these days. That would be a young woman, who seems to distance herself a bit from the people around her seeing as she never has had any good come out wanting people to be close to (with the exception of Markus, whom she of course adored therefore). She always sought her father's appreciation, but never did feel like she received it and seeing as she has had no real mother figure either, she feels, at times, uncomfortable around generations older than herself (we are talking the age of people that could be her parents). Also, she does not feel entirely at ease around parents caring for their children either, no matter the age of the son or daughter. She envies that sort of relationship, though she by now does not wish to welcome one. Yes, you might say she has some parental issues that go very deep. Parental issues that also adds the inevitable trust issues too.
Sofia has difficulty letting people in. In fact, unless she cannot help it, she won't. Perhaps that is the main reason she likes that social status of her's – she is convinced that it, in the upper classes, is much easier to disappear in the midst of all that oblivious shallowness. She is quite sure, by now, that commitment and depending on another are weaknesses she is better off without. That is, however, quite the paradox, seeing as Sofia was brought up in the Christian belief and therefore is quite the believer herself. The Bible, of course, is about loving those next to you and otherwise about forgiveness and such. All qualities she worships, but does in fact not really exercise herself.
All in all, Sofia might come of as an arrogant female who does not seem like the type who wants to be ”bothered” by having to take the time to talk to other people. Still, Markus understands that it is all due to the neglect she has felt her entire life, even though she hides the pain quite well. Perhaps someday, some way, someone else might actually get to see that there is more to this girl. Who knows...?
NPC-character / character related to this one and her posts: - Mister Markus Kierkegaard (unless someone wants to actually claim him for their own.)

I see no major problems, but I'm unaware of how the Danish hierarchy works. Could you possibly explain to me (via PM) the role of an archbishop? Is it a religious title? If so, at this time, were religious figures permitted to marry and have children? Let me know and I'll do the final approval!
